How horrible the E60 5-Series interior looks. Gross. The door panels are a bit of an ergonomic nightmare. Amongst other blergh.
Like what the fuck is this shit? It looks like you’re looking at the door panel while drunk, but you’re dead sober. Who decided putting all that stuff where it is was a good idea? ERghfhg fsuuerere ptut thte door handel theree Hanz.
Then there’s the hilariously small cup holders. This one blocks the whatever climate control thingy that is. What can you put in there? A bottle of Advil?
Then there’s the steering wheel. Which looks like it belongs in a 2001 Jetta.
Then there’s the seemingly random placement of pretty much eveything and anything. The passenger side vent doesn’t match with the center stack vents, the IDrive knob looks like a centercap, the e-brake is angled towards the driver, the dash looks like somebody tried to take it off, then decided to put it back on the wrong side around.
Just ew. It’s a shame, since the exterior of these cars looked great.

Its like its made of agorophobes, afraid to interact with others and constantly finding reasons to go around instead of talking to someone. CRAP! here comes window switches...I can’t talk to them, hide! Whew that was close.

yeah... what in the world is this handle doing not aligned with the rest of the interior?
we can debate design, like the idrive knob and the dali-doorpanels, but i cant see any good reason why this thing should be angled off like that.

I prefer Helen Keller over Dali, but whatever sails your ship >:)

The m5 is a bit better

This seems weird but mostly inoffensive to me.
The door panels look weird but the grab handles and latches are in readily reachable spots. The window switches look weird but they’re just to the left of the steering wheel. Granted iDrive is not the most intuitive car interface but it’s not the worst, and whenever it got updated to the higher-res version (maybe the mid-cycle refresh?) it got less bad.
The cup holders suck, but so do all BMW cup holders.

A BMW 135is driver

I thought you were serious, then I saw this bit of trolling. Well played!

The exterior wasn’t much better.

I can’t argue with the cupholder since my 3 has basically the same one. Not really sure what they were thinking on that one.

E-brake is angled towards the driver for sweet drifts... Just kidding, likely paying homage to the old driver-centric interiors BMW was known for, like the E30 with its angled dash.

I like this interior far better than that of the current 5-Series. Same for the exterior, come to think of it.

They’re German, they were thinking, “Fuck you, Americans”.

Germans think we’re barbarians for drinking in our cars. They included these for fat, slovenly, Americans.

It’s to stab obese people in the ass when they get in.

Yeah I guess so. It’s well known that they used to not put cupholders in their cars at all, so I guess it shouldn’t surprise me.

What the hell is that iDrive switch? It looks like an upside-down pie tin. The whole dash looks like a terrible accident with the Bulge tool in Illustrator.

Luckily they overhauled the entire thing and fixed at least the doors (which are my biggest gripe) with the mid-cycle refresh, when they switched over to 528i, 535i, and 550i from 525i, 530i, and 545i, respectively. Those would be the ones to get.

I’ve never loved BMW interiors, my grandmother had a 1999 or so 5-Series that she kept for years. Thing was squeaky and rattley as hell on the interior. Starting to fall apart rapidly. She eventually traded it for a 2014 E-Class.

Some eye bleach, in the form of correct 5 Series interiors

Blame the Bangle butt. Also, they put the door un/lock button by the hazard lights button. It’s the thing seemingly furthest from the door. They still do it today, too. Such a pain.

There was a critic in France in the 19th century that hated the Eiffel Tower with a passion, yet every day he went there for lunch. Someone asked why he did that if he hated it so much, and his reply was that it was the only place in Paris that he could go to where he didn’t have to look at that thing.
I feel the same way about the interior of the E60. Considering that the alternative is being on the outside and having to damage ones retinas looking at that, that, thing , the interior is pretty good by comparison. The 5-series reached its peak in the E34/E39 days, and the E60 is an affront to the lineage.

Ok, I give you the door handles. They look cheap. Other than that I think the interior of the E60 looks very nice and clean, better than the interior of its successor.

Those door panels remind me of doctor’s office art. From the ‘90s.

The best part about their interiors are their seats, which are a tad too firm.

Call me crazy but i always liked the exterior especially on the updated/refreshed later model years. And they fixed a few of the interior quirks too. But maybe I’m biased because I spent the last 3 months driving my mom’s 2010 while my 330ci was in the shop getting overhauled.

The window switch in later BMWs always baffled me, it is unnatural to twist your arm that way to operate the windows. Horizontal or angled slightly away from the driver works better.
